Broncos agree to terms on trade with 49ers to acquire LB Jonas Griffith

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos have added to their linebacking corps as they approach the 53-man roster deadline.

Denver has agreed to terms on a trade for linebacker Jonas Griffith and a 2022 seventh-round pick from the 49ers in exchange for a 2022 sixth-round pick and a 2023 seventh-round pick, the team announced.

Griffith, a first-year player, initially joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2020 before spending time on the Colts' and 49ers' practice squads last season. He did not appear in a regular-season game.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound player attended Indiana State, where he recorded 382 tackles. 50 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and two interceptions during his career. He was named a first-team All-Mountain Valley Football Conference player in 2019.

Griffith ranked third on the 49ers this preseason with nine defensive tackles, and he led the 49ers in special teams tackles. Griffith added two passes defensed during the preseason.

Earlier Tuesday, the Broncos announced a trade with the Detroit Lions. Denver agreed to deal wide receiver Trinity Benson and a 2023 sixth-round pick to the Detroit Lions for a 2022 fifth- and seventh-round pick.

Denver must trim its roster to 53 players by 2 p.m. MT on Tuesday.
