MATCHUP

As the Broncos (2-0) welcome the Rams (0-2) to the Mile High City, they'll look to cement an undefeated preseason slate with an impressive win in their first home game of the 2021 season. And after COVID-19 precautions forced Empower Field at Mile High to severely limit its capacity in 2020, this will be the first game open to fans at full capacity since Dec. 29, 2019.

Those fans and many more watching from afar will be able to get a glimpse at the Broncos at nearly full strength, as Head Coach Vic Fangio said Thursday that starters will see some action — including WR Courtland Sutton, RB Melvin Gordon III and OLB Von Miller, who all are expected to make their preseason debuts. Sutton and Miller will appear in a game for the first time since suffering season-ending injuries in 2020. TE Albert Okwuegbunam will also return to the field after recovering from a 2020 ACL injury, and with TE Noah Fant sidelined because of a lower-leg injury, Okwuegbunam may see some time with the first-team offense.

Meanwhile, on the other side, it's unclear whether the Rams will play their starters in Denver. Rams head coach Sean McVay said Thursday that they'll travel their veterans, but it seems like a near lock that Los Angeles' starters won't play, especially star players like DL Aaron Donald or QB Matthew Stafford. McVay historically has not played starters much since becoming the Rams' head coach in 2017, and that is probable to hold in 2021.

Instead, a large part of this game will belong to the reserves looking to earn a spot in their final chance to make an impression on NFL decision-makers with roster cuts looming on Tuesday.
