ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver has regained a potential key piece of its offensive line.

The Broncos activated tackle Elijah Wilkinson from injured reserve to their active roster, the team announced Saturday.

Wilkinson is now eligible to play on Sunday against the Dolphins.

The Broncos designated Wilkinson for return from IR on Nov. 11, which began a 21-day window during which he could be activated to the 53-man roster. The fourth-year player started the first three games of the season at right tackle for the Broncos before he suffered a leg injury against the Buccaneers in Week 3.

A new rule in 2020 permits teams to activate an unlimited number of players from injured reserve to their 53-man roster rather than the two permitted in previous seasons.

Head Coach Vic Fangio said Friday he expected Demar Dotson to start at right tackle against Miami.

Denver also elevated tight end Troy Fumagalli and safety Alijah Holder as standard elevations and linebacker Josh Watson as a COVID-19 Replacement.

The NFL's standard elevation process allows teams to elevate two players per week from the practice squad to the game-day roster. After the game, those players may revert to the practice squad without being exposed to waivers. Each player is eligible for this process twice during a season, and Fumagalli has now been elevated in consecutive weeks. Holder was elevated as a COVID-19 Replacement for Week 9, but he may undergo the standard elevation process once more.

The COVID-19 Replacement, meanwhile, permits a team to elevate a practice squad player to the active roster and then revert to the practice squad without clearing waivers, but there is no limit on the number of times a player may be chosen as a COVID-19 Replacement. Defensive end Shelby Harris remains on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, which allows the Broncos to promote Watson in his absence. Watson has been elevated to the game-day roster four times this season — twice as a standard elevation and twice as a COVID-19 Replacement.
