ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- With their final scheduled pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Broncos went back to the SEC -- in particular, the alma mater of Jeremy Jarmon, Jacob Tamme and Wesley Woodyard.
At No. 188 overall, Denver selected University of Kentucky linebacker Danny Trevathan.
"This kid makes a ton of sense for the Denver Broncos," NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said on the network's draft broadcast.
Trevathan led the Wildcats -- and the entire Southeastern Conference -- in tackles in 2011 with 143, the second straight year he accomplished that feat.
For his career, Trevathan has 374 tackles, six sacks, 32.5 tackles for loss, 11 forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, nine passes defensed and four interceptions.
"Danny Trevathan is everywhere," Mayock said, noting that scouts he talked to called him "one of the toughest kids in the SEC."
In 2011, he was named a Second-Team All-American by Sports Illustrated after ranking fifth in the nation in tackles and leading all linebackers in the country in forced fumbles.
As a junior in 2010, he became the first linebacker in Kentucky history to earn first-team All-America honors, which he got from CollegeFootballNews.com.
Trevathan's 374 career tackles rank 10th all-time on Kentucky's career tackle list. For the record, Woodyard ranks seventh with 395 tackles.
Barring a trade, that concludes Denver's picks in the 2012 NFL Draft.
