ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Outside linebacker Nik Bonitto is expected to return to practice next week following a procedure on his foot, Head Coach Sean Payton announced Thursday.

"He had a little spur on the top of his foot," Payton said. "… His is something that we just had done. We knew that he was going to miss this week. He'll be up and at it next week. He's been fantastic. The days he's missed has been [from] this simple bone spur in a unique spot on the top of the foot. It's not weight-bearing. He went ahead and had it done. I think three stitches."

Payton said the goal is for Bonitto to play in the Broncos' preseason finale against the Saints.

Bonitto had a sack and a pair of quarterback hits in limited snaps against the 49ers, but he did not practice this week following the game.

Payton also announced that tight end Nate Adkins underwent a "tightrope" procedure following an ankle sprain. Adkins did not play against the 49ers and also has not practiced this week.

"The benefit of the tightrope is it gives you a firm timeline, a consistent recovery," Payton said. "I don't want to give you a timeline on it, but he's going to miss some early portion of the season. That was done successfully. Clean. There weren't any other things that they noticed. It was a smart decision."

Payton said tackle Garett Bolles, who exited practice early on Thursday, is "going to be fine." Bolles had an asthma-related issue, according to Payton.

"We just pulled him out," Payton said. "He'll be OK."

Fullback Mike Burton suffered a hamstring injury, according to Payton.
