Harris to Get Checkup on Knee Monday

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Chris Harris Jr.'s stay on the physically unable to perform list might not last long.

Harris said he is scheduled to meet with orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews on Monday for his six-month checkup following the torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered Jan. 12. Andrews performed the surgery this winter.

"I feel good about going up there. I should kill all those tests," said Harris.

The injury was a partial tear of the ACL.

"Yeah. Even Dr. Andrews, when he was testing, he was like, 'I've got to really look at it and take it through more tests,' before he found the problem," Harris said.

The degree of the injury allowed Harris to do plenty of work on a side field during organized team activities. That was the case again Thursday. This has allowed him to continue honing his technique through the rehab process. Thursday, Harris said he was no longer thinking about the knee as he cut and moved.

"I've been past that. Really, it's just perfecting my technique. Doing the same drills over and over and over again until I continue to do it perfect.

"Right now, my technique is there. I haven't lost any of my technique. Really, it's just physically getting in shape, getting in playing shape."

Harris said he expects that he will be on a similar protocol as linebacker Von Miller, who tore his ACL four weeks before Harris. Miller worked on a limited basis Thursday, taking part in individual drills and the seven-on-seven periods.

For Harris, watching practice Thursday was difficult, but he understood the prudence of it.

"It's tough right now, but it's smart right now. I'm not at six months yet. It'd be stupid for me to go out there and play right now -- even though I probably could, but it's not smart. Just staying on the same protocol as Dr. Andrews has me on. I did everything I possibly could do of rehab and getting back. So I'm just getting ready to take the test.

Harris is on schedule in his rehabilitation. The Week 1 game against the Indianapolis Colts is the goal he's set for his return.

"Me personally, I don't want to play preseason, but if I'm ready, then I might play," he said. "I think that might be rushing it, but I think the first game, we'll be good."
