ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- **On the same day cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie returned to the practice field, the Broncos got even more injury-related good news.
Tackle Ryan Clady, who was still listed as limited after the morning's practice, took his first reps during full-team drills.
"It's good to see him progressing the way he is," Offensive Coordinator Adam Gase said. "The trainers and (Head) Coach (John) Fox are keeping us updated with what's going on. And as we get going, the more reps he can take, the better, and the more he can get involved. That's what we're looking for."
Fox said the team is "easing (Clady) back into it," as Head Athletic Trainer Steve Antonopulos and Strength and Conditioning Coach Luke Richesson and their staffs have worked hard to get Clady ready to return the field. Both the medical staff and Clady feel comfortable with trying to get the tackle back into football shape.
Clady has participated in practices from day one of training camp on a "limited" basis, and Fox acknowledged that the team is taking his return to the field slowly and "trying to be as smart as possible."
"(We're) still trying to get Ryan ready for the season opener," he said. "At this stage, I think everything is on target."
Exactly how much playing time in the preseason Clady receives -- if any -- is still up in the air. While recovering from a knee injury in the 2010 offseason, Clady played just two drives in the entire preseason, both of which game in the fourth game. He went on to start all 16 games and earn the club's Ed Block Courage Award that season.
While Gase acknowledged that Clady would probably "like to have a little bit of action" before the NFL Kickoff Game against Baltimore on Sept. 5, he's not too worried about the three-time Pro Bowler playing catch-up.
"He's on it mentally -- I'm not worried about that," Gase said. "When he's ready to go physically, we'll be ready to throw him in there. But until they give us the green light and he's all cleared, we're not going to rush him out there."
