Introduction

I am Lizzy, and I am a Children's Hospital Colorado patient. I got to be a Kid Correspondent for the hospital. I got to interview my favorite player, Garett Bolles. The place I went to was the Broncos' practice field/practice facility [Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit]. I went to it with my dad.

People

Everyone I met was very nice. There was a photographer, three girls who took me around for a tour, and we met Garett Bolles. Garett is the one I interviewed. He was nice, sweet, tall, kind and thoughtful. He had a very low but deep voice. He has a very comforting voice.

Things

I went on a tour and we saw the locker rooms, cafe, practice field and three Super Bowl trophies. We also saw the meeting rooms, their other trophies and watched their practice. I also got to do the interview with Garett. I got to see his locker and Drew Sanders' locker. I also got to eat food.

Questions/Answers

Lizzy: What advice would you give a kid that wants to achieve their dreams?

Garett: Number one, I would tell them to never let anyone tell you that you can't become something special. When I was a kid, everyone used to tell me that because I had a learning disability and struggled in school, I wasn't going to make it. People told me life would be better without me. But one thing I learned is you have to believe in yourself. That's the most important thing. If you believe in yourself and believe you can achieve something special, then you can do it. I used to tell people I was going to make it to the NFL, and they laughed at me. I took that as fuel, put it in the back of my head, and let that fire burn. That continues to motivate me. When I step on the field every Sunday or any time we play a game, I play for all those kids who want to live their dream. It gives me motivation to live mine because I want every kid — including you — to live theirs.

Lizzy: What do you like best about your position?

Garett: What do I love about my position? Number one, I protect Bo Nix. ... Playing left tackle, I love being in the limelight. I like going against the best of the best. When I cross those lines, I can just be myself. ... I can just play ball and go into my zone. It's the best feeling in the world.

Lizzy: What would you do if you were not a football player?

Garett: If I wasn't a football player, I'd probably be a lacrosse player. Lacrosse is my favorite sport besides football. Either that or a motivational speaker or someone who works with kids.

Lizzy: How do you handle losing a game?

Garett: One thing about me — I hate to lose. It's the worst. But being around my family helps. When I go home, no matter what people say online or in the media, my kids still think I'm a superhero. They run to me, hug me and that makes me feel better.

Lizzy: What is the most exciting game you have ever played?

Garett: The most exciting game I've ever played was last year when we beat the Chiefs and clinched the playoffs. That was incredible. I also loved going against Myles Garrett on "Monday Night Football" when Bo Nix threw that 93-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Mims. That was pretty cool.

Lizzy: What was it like where you grew up?

Garett: I'm adopted, which is a big part of my story. I grew up with a single parent. My dad was in the military and my mom wasn't really in the picture. Life wasn't easy. I was angry and fought a lot. When my lacrosse coach's family adopted me, they taught me about love — how to love and care for people and be appreciative. Now, I truly love everybody. You never know when you'll see someone again, and showing love can make someone feel special. Everyone has something to give.

Lizzy: When did you start playing football?

Garett: I started football in the fourth grade. You're in fourth grade? Should we get you a helmet and shoulder pads? You could probably beat us all.

Lizzy: Who is your favorite teammate?

Garett: My favorite teammate ever? Von Miller. He taught me how to be the best left tackle and how to love the game. Demaryius Thomas was also a great friend — he was kind, always smiling, and loved everyone. Derek Wolfe, too — that's my guy.

Lizzy: Who is your super fan?

Garett: Who's my super fan? Probably my wife. She screams at the TV when I play. She's my ride-or-die.

Lizzy: Why did you pick #72?

Garett: I wore number 74 in junior college because of Michael Oher — his story was similar to mine. But when I went to Utah, 74 was taken, so I chose 72 to make my own legacy. It's my signature number now.

Lizzy: Does your family come to your games?

Garett: My family comes to every home game. My mom has only missed one game in my entire career, from college to the NFL. That's because of a church assignment, so I let it slide.

Conclusion

That was my tour of the practice facility. That was also my interview with Garett Bolles. It was very fun to write this and do this. If I could, I would definitely do this again. I enjoyed speaking with Garett Bolles.
