ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver has brought in a veteran tight end ahead of Week 9.
The Broncos signed tight end Marcedes Lewis to the practice squad, the team announced Wednesday.
Denver also signed quarterback Sam Ehlinger to its practice squad. The Broncos previously released Ehlinger from the active roster, as linebacker Dre Greenlaw returned to the 53-man roster following Week 8.
Lewis, a 2006 first-round pick by the Jaguars, is in his 20th NFL season and has played 285 games in his career. If he plays in a game for the Broncos this season, he would become the oldest player to appear in a game in franchise history.
The 41-year-old player most recently competed for the Bears, as he appeared in 34 games from 2023-24. Lewis has played in all 68 possible games of the last four seasons and appeared in at least 15 games in each of the last eight years.
Lewis spent the first 12 years of his career (2006-17) in Jacksonville before joining the Packers from 2018-22.
Recognized as a strong blocker at the tight end position, Lewis played at least 40 percent of the Packers' offensive snaps during his final four years in Green Bay. He played 29 percent and 19 percent of the snaps in his two seasons in Chicago, respectively.
In his career, Lewis has recorded 437 catches for 5,115 yards and 40 touchdowns, with the majority of the production coming during his time with the Jaguars. Lewis earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2010 as he caught 58 passes for 700 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Denver previously released defensive end Garrett Nelson and wide receiver Samori Toure from the practice squad.
