ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — As the Broncos prepared Thursday for a Week 14 game against San Francisco, the University of Colorado held a press conference to introduce their new head coach, Mel Tucker.

Broncos Head Coach Vance Joseph likely missed Tucker's opening comments, but he said Thursday that his alma mater had made a "great hire."

"I've known Mel for 20 years," Joseph said. "He's a great football coach. [Linebackers Coach] Reggie Herring worked with him also in Chicago. He's a great teacher, he's a no-nonsense guy. He's been around the best in college football with [Alabama] Coach [Nick] Saban and those guys.

"He's a good man, he's a great recruiter and a great football coach. Great hire for the Buffs."

Tucker served as the defensive coordinator at Georgia during the last three seasons before accepting Colorado's head coaching position.
