MATCHUP

The Broncos' highly anticipated defense will see its first game action on Saturday, as Head Coach Vic Fangio said Thursday that he expects the unit’s first team to play vs. the Seahawks after sitting for the Week 1 game against Minnesota — though that may not include outside linebackers Von Miller and Bradley Chubb. Seattle also rested many of its starters last week, but star quarterback Russell Wilson said Wednesday that he hopes to play on Saturday. Should he — and perhaps receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett — be available, Denver's star-studded secondary, including cornerbacks Kyle Fuller, Ronald Darby and Bryce Callahan and safeties Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson, will get a good test.

Seattle's secondary should also get some solid competition from Denver's offense. Quarterbacks Teddy Bridgewater (who will start Saturday) and Drew Lock each had very effective and efficient days against the Vikings, but should Seattle put its starting defense on the field for a few series, Bridgewater will have to face 2020 Pro Bowlers in Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs. With speedy receivers Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler stretching the defense — and perhaps Courtland Sutton, though he said he's unsure whether he'll play — Denver should be able to match up well, especially if the Broncos' run game can keep linebacker Bobby Wagner and the rest of Seattle's front seven off balance.

Ultimately, how those two Denver quarterbacks fare will provide the most lasting outcome, as Fangio said he could make a decision as early as next week as to who will be the team's starter, so this preseason game will probably be one to watch closely for Broncos fans.
