ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — For his courage in the face of adversity, inside linebacker Alex Singleton was named the team's 2025 Ed Block Courage Award winner, it was announced in a team meeting on Thursday.
Each year, the Ed Block Courage Award honors players who exemplify commitment to the principles of sportsmanship. Recipients are selected by their teammates for exceptional courage, great character and inspiring effort.
Singleton was selected by his teammates for his approach and dedication to the rehab process after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left leg on Sept. 22, 2024. After sustaining the injury in the first quarter against the Buccaneers, he would go on to play every defensive snap for the remainder of the game.
This season, Singleton underwent surgery on Nov. 7 after being diagnosed with testicular cancer. After completing successful surgery to remove the tumor, he would return to play on "Sunday Night Football" two weeks later.
Signed as an unrestricted free agent by Denver in 2022, Singleton has played in 50 games (44 starts) with the Broncos and totaled 469 tackles (259 solo), three sacks (22 yds.), one interception (2 yds.), two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Leading Denver in tackles (111) through 14 games in 2025, he has notched the most tackles on the team in three of his four seasons with the Broncos while his 469 total tackles in that span are tied for 13th most in the NFL.
The Ed Block Courage Award is named in honor of Ed Block, the longtime head athletic trainer of the Baltimore Colts, who was a pioneer in his profession and a respected humanitarian. It's a league-wide initiative that was first awarded in 1984.
Details regarding the Ed Block Courage Awards recognizing recipients from each of the 32 NFL teams will be announced at a later date.
