ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos are a step closer to getting a playmaker back on defense.
Denver designated linebacker Dre Greenlaw for return from injured reserve, the team announced Wednesday.
Greenlaw returned to practice on Wednesday and participated in the media-viewing portion of practice ahead of Denver's Week 7 game against the Giants.
Denver can activate Greenlaw to the 53-man roster at any point within the next 21 days. He is eligible to play as early as Sunday's matchup with New York. If Greenlaw isn't activated during the 21-day window, he would revert to IR for the remainder of the season.
Greenlaw, who has yet to make his Broncos debut, was placed on IR with a quad injury ahead of the Broncos' Week 3 game against the Chargers.
The veteran linebacker played just two games in 2024, but he recorded 247 tackles, eight tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 10 passes defensed and an interception across 30 games from 2022-23.
Denver has now designated three of a potential eight players for return this season. The Broncos designated Malcolm Roach for return — and activated him — ahead of Week 6, and linebacker Drew Sanders was designated for return at the beginning of the season. Sanders has not yet returned to practice or started his 21-day clock.
