The Lead

As training camp commences, veteran right tackle Mike McGlinchey is feeling right at home — and not only because he's entering the third year of his Denver tenure.

Heading into 2025, McGlinchey is joined by a pair of familiar faces in former 49ers teammates Talanoa Hufanga and Dre Greenlaw. Both were key additions in the offseason, and McGlinchey believes their impact will be felt immediately.

"Those two are going to help us tremendously this year, and I'm happy to be back on the same side as them," McGlinchey said Tuesday ahead of training camp.

McGlinchey spent five seasons in San Francisco, sharing four of them with Greenlaw and two with Hufanga. McGlinchey and Greenlaw reached Super Bowl LIV together, and the trio helped the Niners to two other conference title games.

Hufanga brings more than just physicality to the Broncos' secondary, as he's a proven playmaker with postseason experience and All-Pro honors. Meanwhile, Greenlaw — whose resume features 12 postseason games and two Super Bowl trips — adds another veteran presence to the center of the defense.

"I mean, obviously, their play speaks for themselves," McGlinchey said. "I think 'Huf' and Dre are two of the best at their positions across the league, and they're monstrous additions for us defensively."

McGlinchey also emphasized the emotional value Hufanga and Greenlaw can bring to the locker room and the field.

"The two of them bring such an energy, especially [because] the defensive side of the football is a very emotional, energetic kind of style of play," McGlinchey said. "You can feel Dre Greenlaw when he steps onto the field. You can feel 'Huf' when he makes plays in the box or takes a chance on a great interception."

With camp almost underway and the first preseason game rapidly approaching, McGlinchey and his former teammates are looking to turn old chemistry into new success — and this time in the Mile High City.
