Broncos make transactions regarding injured players

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos made five transactions involving injured players on Monday.

Quarterback Chad Kelly (wrist), tight end Jake Butt (knee) and linebacker Shaquil Barrett (hip) were added to the active/NFI (non-football injury) list while nose tackle Kyle Peko was declared active/PUP (physically unable to perform). Rookie linebacker Josh Banderas was designated as waived/NFI.

The non-football injury list exists for injuries suffered outside team and league activities. The PUP list, meanwhile, includes players who suffer football-related injuries.

The four players declared active PUP or NFI still count toward the 90-man active roster. They may participate in team meetings and use team facilities, but they do not practice.

  • EVP/GM John Elway indicated after the 2017 NFL Draft that the Broncos expected Butt's timetable for return to be in either August or September.
  • Should Peko be added to the regular-season PUP list at the conclusion of the preseason, he would be forced to sit out the first six weeks of the regular season. There is currently no indication from the Broncos that Peko will be out for that length of time.
