LONDON — A Broncos defender has earned a league-wide honor following Denver's Week 5 win over the Eagles.

Outside linebacker Nik Bonitto has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week, the NFL announced Wednesday.

The award is the first Defensive Player of the Week selection of Bonitto's career.

Bonitto recorded 2.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, three quarterback hits and four total tackles in Denver's 21-17 comeback win over Philadelphia.

The fourth-year player helped Denver shut down a last-minute Philadelphia drive, as he sacked Jalen Hurts on the first play of the Eagles' final possession to bleed valuable seconds off the clock.

Bonitto is the first Bronco to earn Player of the Week honors this season, and he is the first to be named Defensive Player of the Week since former Broncos linebacker Cody Barton earned the nod in Week 7 last year.

Through five weeks, Bonitto leads the NFL in sacks (7.0), quarterback pressures (31) and quarterback hits (14), according to the NFL's Next Gen Stats.
