The Lead

The College Football Hall of Fame could soon feature a couple more Broncos.

The National Football Foundation recently announced the 179 players under consideration for the College Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2026, and former defensive end Elvis Dumervil and running back Reggie Rivers were among the nominees.

Dumervil, who tallied three Pro Bowl selections and a first-team All-Pro nod from 2006-12 in Denver, earned consideration after a standout career at Louisville. He led the nation in sacks (20) in 2005 and was chosen as a unanimous first-team All-American and the Nagurski Trophy winner as the nation's best defender. The Broncos selected Dumervil in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft, and he posted three seasons with at least 10 sacks — including a standout 17-sack campaign in 2009.

Rivers played six NFL seasons — all for the Broncos — and appeared in 96 career games. He tallied six career touchdowns and posted his best season in 1992 as he rushed for 282 yards and three touchdowns. Before his professional career, Rivers was a first-team All-American selection at Texas State in 1990. That year, he ranked third in the nation in all-purpose yards and rushing yards. He was a two-time All-Southland Conference honoree and still ranks third in school history in all-purpose yards.

Tight end Vernon Davis and defensive end Courtney Brown were among several other finalists who spent time with the Broncos during their professional careers.

Eighteen players were selected to the College Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2025, including former Broncos running back Montee Ball.
