The Lead

In the days after announcing he underwent successful surgery for testicular cancer, Broncos inside linebacker Alex Singleton said he hoped to "be a voice" that would encourage others to undergo preventative screening.

On Tuesday, Singleton did that at a national level, as he opened up about his cancer diagnosis to "Good Morning America."

In the feature, Singleton detailed his recent journey — from undergoing a random NFL drug test to scheduling appointments and tests to playing against the Raiders on "Thursday Night Football."

As Singleton shared his story, he spoke transparently about the anxiety he felt during the process and the support he received when he opened up to those within the Broncos' organization.

"I learned more just in this past week of compassion and empathy through a bunch of tough dudes than anything else I've ever gone through," Singleton said in the interview.

On a national stage, he also continued to stress the importance of early detection and screening.

"I don't like going to the doctor," Singleton said, "but now that I've learned how quick it is, how easy it is and how detectable it is through [tests], I want to be the guy that's standing on the top of every mountain just going, 'Get this done!'"
