The Lead

On Tuesday, KJ Hamler got to see the first jersey he's ever had with his name on the back.

Penn State, keeping with school tradition, does not feature players' names on the back of their jerseys.

"I ain't never seen my name on the back of a jersey," he said with a smile as his mother recorded the video.

Now, let us take a moment to introduce his parents, LaTonya Gooding and Thomas Hamler. You may already be familiar with them if you're a Nittany Lions fan — or a fan of rap. The duo has written raps for KJ's birthday each year since at least 2017.

In case you were wondering, there are only 70 days until July 8. Hope we're not putting too much pressure on you, mom!

Below the Fold

Drafting Hamler just after taking Jerry Jeudy, another wide receiver, in the first round raised some eyebrows. But as ESPN’s Jeff Legwold writes, the decision makes a lot of sense when you look at their needs on offense.

If you're interested in seeing a peek at how the Broncos came to select Jeudy at 15th overall, including how they scouted him at Alabama, don’t miss this story from Aric DiLalla.

Still hungry for more mock drafts? Sports Illustrated’s Way-Too-Early 2021 NFL Mock Draft has the Broncos going back to Alabama for their first-round pick, this time on the defensive side.
