The Lead

Fourth-round pick Que Robinson is set to join the Broncos after a four-year career at Alabama, and AL.com was there with Robinson as he got the call on Day 3 of the NFL Draft.

As Robinson explained, it was worth the wait until the Broncos chose him with the 134th-overall selection.

"You kind of wait your whole life to just hear you name called," Robinson said. "Ultimately, I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. I always had the confidence and the support behind me to know I could."

During the call, Head Coach Sean Payton shared that former Alabama head coach Nick Saban was "a huge advocate" of Robinson during the draft process.

Robinson posted a career-high seven tackles for loss, four sacks and a forced fumble despite missing four games during his final season at Alabama, and the Broncos believe he has potential to succeed at the next level.

"We've been seeing flashes of him the last four years at Alabama, really the last two on defense," General Manager George Paton said after the draft. "… You see the athletic traits, the athletic ability, the length, the speed, the way he plays, the motor he plays with. He's played behind some really good outside 'backers like [Texans DE] Will Anderson, [Vikings OLB] Dallas Turner, guys like that. So, he wasn't playing a whole lot. This year [it] kind of clicked on defense, and then obviously he got the injury. But he has all the traits you look for at that position and yet, in the meantime, he can be a hardcore special teamer, so that's what attracted us."

Robinson, who spent draft weekend with a number of family members, spoke with Turner after he was selected. He also revealed reigning Defensive Player of the Year and Alabama product Pat Surtain II is his favorite defensive player.

"That's somebody I wanted to model my game after," Robinson said.

Now, the two will be teammates in Denver. When Robinson soon arrives in Denver, he said he would help wherever he's needed.

"I feel like I just need to do whatever it takes to help win," Robinson said.
