The Broncos will take on the Steelers at Empower Field at Mile High on Sept. 15, 2024 at 2:25 p.m. MT.
MATCHUP
The Broncos will take the field for their regular-season home opener on Sunday as the team hosts the Pittsburgh Steelers and looks for its first win of the 2024 season. The Steelers are coming off a Week 1 win fueled by kicker and AFC Special Teams Player of the Week Chris Boswell, whose six field goals gave the team an 18-10 victory over the Falcons.
Denver's defense got off to quick start in Week 1, recording an interception and two safeties in the first half. The defensive unit could look for more big-play opportunities in Week 2 as it faces quarterback Justin Fields, who is expected to make his second start with the team.
Outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper, who recorded two sacks in Week 1, could look for another strong performance alongside outside linebacker Baron Browning, who applied key pressure last week.
Offensively, the Broncos will look to find a rhythm early as they match up with a challenging defensive unit that allowed just one touchdown and recorded three takeaways last week. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix is slotted to make his first home start and should look for more scoring opportunities in Week 2. With a 23-yard scramble and 4-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter of Week 1, Nix showed his ability to make plays and should look to continue building positive momentum in this week's matchup. Head Coach Sean Payton also stressed the importance of more efficiency running the ball, and Denver could look to running backs Javonte Williamsand Jaleel McLaughlin to lead this effort.
INJURY UPDATE
The Broncos ruled out wide receiver Devaughn Vele (ribs) for Sunday's game against Pittsburgh. Tackle Garett Bolles (calf), wide receiver Josh Reynolds (Achilles), center Luke Wattenberg (ankle) and outside linebacker Jonah Elliss (knee) were not assigned game statuses and are expected to be available on Sunday.
Pittsburgh listed guard Isaac Seumalo (pectoral) as out, while quarterback Russell Wilson (calf) and wide receiver Roman Wilson (ankle) were listed as questionable.
