ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — A Denver defender has taken a step toward a return to game action.

The Broncos designated linebacker Garret Wallow for return from injured reserve, the team announced Wednesday.

Denver also signed defensive end Garrett Nelson to the practice squad.

Wallow participated in practice on Wednesday and is eligible to be activated to Denver's 53-man roster at any point in the next 21 days. If activated, he can play as soon as this week against the Chiefs.

If Wallow is not activated within the next 21 days, he will revert to injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

Wallow has appeared in five games for the Broncos this season, playing 63 percent of the special teams snaps in the games in which he appeared. He was placed on IR ahead of Week 7.

Denver has designated four of a potential eight players for return from injured reserve in 2025. Defensive tackle Malcolm Roach and linebacker Dre Greenlaw were previously designated for return in Weeks 6 and 7, respectively, and linebacker Drew Sanders was designated for return at the beginning of the season. Sanders has not yet returned to practice or started his 21-day window.

Nelson, who previously spent a portion of the season on Denver's practice squad, has not appeared in a regular-season game. He recorded five tackles, a quarterback hit and a half-sack in three preseason games in 2025.
