ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --The Denver Broncos will be under the lights early and often in 2014.
The club's slate for the upcoming season features five primetime games -- tied for second-most in team history -- starting with a Week 1 Sunday Night Football matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.
"We knew there'd be some primetime opportunities and we're excited about it," Head Coach John Fox said.
The Broncos return to primetime in back-to-back contests in Weeks 7 and 8, when a Sunday Night Football game against the San Francisco 49ers is followed by a Thursday Night Football tilt with the rival San Diego Chargers.
All three primetime games in the first half of the season come in the friendly confines of Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
That string comes to an end in Week 13, however, when Denver plays in its third Sunday Night Football game of the season -- a trip to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
A Monday Night Football showdown with the 2013 AFC North-champion Cincinnati Bengals closes out the scheduled primetime slate in Week 16. That game will come at Paul Brown Stadium.
Of course, the Broncos were originally scheduled to play five primetime contests in 2013, but that number moved to a team-record six when Denver's first matchup with the Chiefs was flexed to Sunday Night Football.
With so many tantalizing games on Denver's docket in 2014, it wouldn't be a huge surprise if the Broncos are flexed into a sixth primetime contest again this season. New league rules dictate that any Sunday games between Weeks 5 and 17 are eligible to be flexed. A more detailed explanation of the new flex schedule policy can be found here.
