Quotes from Eaton Head Coach Zac Lemon:

Thoughts on Eaton's 3-0 start

ZL: We're really pleased with the results thus far. We have a lot of expectations with this group and a lot of pride. Taking pride in doing the little things right each and every day. Our mindset is to always go out and be the best we can be, to be the best version of ourselves. We feel that if we can keep that approach week in and week out, we can reach our potential.

Thoughts on the expectations for his Eaton football team for the rest of the season

ZL: We try to keep it week to week but it's hard not to look forward especially coming off of a state title. It's hard not to look at the idea of repeating. But we also know the only way to do that is to take care of business each and every week. Take care of your business, play the way you're supposed to play and then we'll see if that's good enough to contend for another state championship.

On what he likes most about this team

ZL: Without a doubt it's our depth. We have some great players, very talented players at several key positions but we also have great depth across the board. This year we have more kids playing football then we've had in the past three years but it's not just the numbers, it's the talent at those positions even after our starters. We have freshmen and sophomores who are getting significant playing time so we feel our roster is very healthy. Great playmakers from our seniors on down.

Thoughts on Friday night's matchup with Faith Christian

ZL: You know I don't know much about them as we've never played them before. But we know the game is going to be tough. They have a strong tradition and from what we can see, they are very athletic. We'll need to play smart, physical and disciplined football and just play our game. It's also homecoming week so we can't let all of those distractions take us away from doing our job.

Quotes from Faith Head Coach Micah Connor:

Thoughts on his team after three weeks

MC: First off, we are very young. Early on we had some confidence issues as we faced playoff caliber teams in the first couple weeks. Basalt, then Rifle, and now we have to play the 2A state champions on Friday. We are all about growing and improving each and every week. We have a lot of work to do but we like this squad and the work they put in. We are on the cusp of getting to the point where all of the hard work will pay off and we're looking forward to the challenge this Friday versus Eaton.

Thoughts on the expectations for his Faith Christian football team for the rest of the season

MC: Well, we've had a very challenging early part of our schedule so we're hoping that will prepare us for the rest of our season. Our young men are gaining that experience needed to get us to the next level and I'm so proud of our senior leadership that has really kept our spirits up. We've had some tough losses early on but that's ok. We're starting five to six freshmen and I think that experience will pay off for us as the season moves along. Once we get into league play, I think those young players, along with our seniors, will be ready to take that next step.

On what he likes most about this team

MC: I'd love to say that we're young, but no coach really wants that to be the case. But I do love our great group of seniors and the leaders who are helping our younger players grow into quality football players and more importantly, quality young men. We have a theme for this year and it's all about becoming 'Kingdom Men' and our players have really embraced that mentality. I really like the blend of our senior leadership and our up-and-coming group of younger players.

Thoughts on Friday night's matchup with Eaton

MC: Eaton is big and athletic. They are a high caliber team, very experience and very talented. We're going to need to come out and do our very best and if we play our best, I think we'll have a chance at the end to steal a victory. But win or lose, this will be a great learning experience for our team.
