That's What He Said: Jackson, Ward

DEFENSIVE END MALIK JACKSON

On offseason workouts
"So far so good. [Strength and conditioning] Coach Luke Richesson and his staff have us working really hard and it's good to be back with these guys and competing and getting closer to the season."

On pass rushing with DE DeMarcus Ware and LB Von Miller
"You think about that, but still we have a lot of guys who can rush the passer. My focus is getting in this weight room, getting strong to try to get ready for the competition for the pass-rush stuff on third down—'T-Knight' (DT Terrance Knighton) is a great pass rusher, 'Sly' (DT Sylvester Williams)—and to try to compete with those guys."

On the Broncos adding to the defense
"It's time to get better. It is a competition. It is a business at the end of the day. Their job is to bring guys in and try to create competition and that's what they're doing. We just have to go out there and get ourselves right and get ready to work."

On his progress as a pass rusher
"I think it's going [well]. We had [DE] Elvis Dumervil my first year, [DE] Shaun Phillips last year and now we have a great in [DeMarcus] Ware. So I'm pretty blessed to have these Pro Bowl guys in here who can actually teach me and I can just sit back and watch. So far, so good. I just can't wait until we get on this field and I can kind of go through it full speed and do it."

On getting DE Derek Wolfe back
"It is going to be great. He went through an unfortunate thing last year. I just had to step up and be ready and luckily I was. It'll be good to have him back in the rotation and him healthy and just having him around will be real good for us."

On adjusting to Denver
"It's all coming along. It is going to take some time. Just right now, trying to learn the defense, get acquainted with my teammates and get this cohesion down."

On adjusting to the altitude
"Oh man, the first few days were tough. But I'm used to it now. My breathing is good. I've been working hard and I think our team goal we're working towards and it is going to come along soon."

On his physicality
"I think it just comes natural. I've always kind of been this way since I started playing. It's a mindset, a mentality, and that's just the way I have to approach it. Whatever is your strong suit, you have to work at it and if you want to be the best, you keep working, keep working, but I think it's just something that I've been blessed [with]. It comes natural." On what he has taken from film study so far

"Just trying to learn the defense, trying to get comfortable with it. It takes time. You're not going to come in and learn the defense. There's a bunch of different terminology you have to learn, and different techniques. But for the most part, it's similar to what we ran last year in Cleveland, but all the terminology is different, so that's what I'm trying to learn right now."

On the schedule and the number of primetime games
"I haven't played too many primetime games in my career, so I'm definitely excited to get on that primetime stage. You see who you're playing, you've got friends on different teams, so you make some phone calls and talk a little trash here and there, but I'm definitely looking forward to this season."
