ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos have promoted Matt Russell to director of player personnel and named Brian Stark as their West Coast scout, Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway announced Tuesday.
Russell, 38, who spent the last three seasons as the club's director of college scouting, will oversee the day-to-day operations of the pro personnel and college scouting departments in his new role.
"Matt's energy and passion for his work have earned him a tremendous amount of respect from those inside our organization," Elway said. "His leadership and evaluation skills make him the perfect fit to oversee the player personnel departments."
A former All-American and Butkus Award winner at the University of Colorado, Russell joined the Broncos in 2009 after scouting for seven seasons in the NFL with Philadelphia (2006-08) and New England (2001, '03-05).
Stark, 38, served as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach for Yale University the past three seasons following nine years in various coaching and football operations capacities at San Diego State University.
A University of Colorado graduate, Stark served as a student assistant and assistant recruiting coordinator for the Buffaloes from 1994-98 in addition to coaching at Brighton High School from 1995-96. He also spent a year as the offense program coordinator at the University of Washington in 1999.
"Brian brings a diverse football background to the Denver Broncos," Elway said. "His knowledge of the game and his experience in various facets of coaching and player development are exactly what we are looking for in a talent evaluator."
