ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos have lost two more cornerbacks for the season, as both Duke Dawson Jr. and Kevin Toliver II will miss the rest of the year with knee injuries.
The Broncos lost cornerback Essang Bassey a week ago to a presumptive ACL tear, and Head Coach Vic Fangio said Monday it was "rare" to lose so many players at a position group in quick succession. Both Dawson and Toliver were injured in Sunday's game against Carolina.
The Broncos have received better news regarding left tackle Garett Bolles and tight end Noah Fant. Bolles did not play Sunday against the Panthers after falling ill shortly before the game. Fant played just five snaps before leaving the game with similar symptoms.
Fangio said Monday that the Broncos do not believe the symptoms are COVID-related and that both players tested negative for the virus.
Fangio is "optimistic" Bolles and Fant can return against Buffalo in Week 15.
"They just got back in town here within the last few minutes, and we do not think it was COVID, but obviously they'll keep testing to make sure it wasn't," Fangio said. "[We] believe it was something else, so they should be fine, hopefully."
Denver, though, will likely be without outside linebacker Von Miller, who has not played this season after suffering an ankle injury ahead of the team's Week 1 game.
"He did start running outside a little bit last week," Fangio said. "I haven't gotten an update here in the last couple days. We'll see where he's at, but I wouldn't anticipate him playing this week."
