Biography
Steve Foley, the franchise's all-time leader in interceptions, was elected into the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame in 2024 alongside tight end Riley Odoms. Playing his entire 11-year career in Denver (1976-86), Foley finished with 877 tackles, 44 interceptions (622 yds., 1 TD) and four fumble recoveries (1 TD). His 44 interceptions from 1976-86 were the third-most in the NFL, with only Pro Football Hall of Fame safety Donnie Shell (48) and Seahawks Ring of Honor cornerback Dave Brown (50) recording more in that span. He is also just 1-of-2 players in franchise history to record five seasons with at least five interceptions, joining Ring of Fame safety Goose Gonsoulin. A key figure in the Broncos early success, Foley was part of the club's first six playoff appearances (1977-79, '83-84, '86) as well as its first four AFC West titles (1977-78, '84, '86). He is also just 1-of-3 players to start each of the team's first two Super Bowls (cornerback in Super Bowl XII in 1977 and safety in Super Bowl XXI in 1986). Before joining the Broncos, Foley spent one season transitioning from quarterback to defensive back with the Jacksonville Express of the World Football League in 1975. A quarterback at Tulane University, Foley was inducted into the School's Hall of Fame in 1983 after setting a school record for total yards (3,472) and leading the team to two winning seasons. A native of New Orleans and a member of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2002, Foley was born Nov. 11, 1953.
