DENVER – After a week of rehabilitation on his injured left shoulder, starting quarterback Trevor Siemian wasn't quite ready for Sunday's game against the Falcons.
Siemian, who injured his shoulder against the Buccaneers on Oct. 2, practiced Thursday and Friday in a limited fashion after missing Wednesday's practice.
"He's very close," Kubiak said. "He did everything he could for us all week long, but we had to make a decision that at the end of the week. When it was time to go, he tried to get there. He worked extremely hard to get there. We just didn't think he was ready."
Kubiak said Siemian learned Saturday morning that rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch would start in his place.
The second-year player said after Sunday's 23-16 loss to the Falcons that he was "pretty close" to playing in the contest.
"As a competitor, you want to be out there every time with your guys," Siemian said. "That part of it stinks."
With a short turnaround before Thursday's game in San Diego, Siemian said "we'll see" whether he's able to return for the Broncos' first divisional game of the season.
"Again, I'll take it one day at a time and get right tomorrow and [Head Athletic Trainer Steve 'Greek' Antonopulos] will have me doing some stuff, I'm sure," Siemian said. "[I'll] take it one day at a time."
