Moreno Named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. –After leading the Broncos to the franchise’s first win against the Ravens in Baltimore, running back Knowshon Moreno has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week, the NFL announced on Wednesday.

Moreno carried 22 times and gained 118 yards with one touchdown in the 34-17 win. He picked up 74 of his rushing yards in the first half, helping stake the Broncos to a 17-0 advantage.

He turned in a highlight early in the game with his longest run of the season, a 20-yard burst that included a hurdle over Ravens All-Pro safety Ed Reed.

The fourth-year back then extended the team's lead to its largest margin of the game with a 6-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter that put Denver ahead 31-3.

Sunday marked the second straight week Moreno topped the 100-yard mark, and the fourth such game of his career. His 118 rushing yards were the third-highest output of his career and his 74 first-half yards were the second most in his career.

Moreno's 118 yards were the most by a visiting player against Baltimore since the 2010 season and represented just the 17th 100-yard rushing game by a Ravens opponent in the franchise's history.

Since taking over as the Broncos starter in Week 12, Moreno has averaged 121.8 scrimmage yards per game, which ranks fourth in the NFL in that category and second behind Vikings running back Adrian Peterson among running backs in that span.

The Offensive Player of the Week award is the first of Moreno's career and the second earned by a Broncos player this year joining quarterback Peyton Manning, who won the award in Week 6.

Overall, it is the 47th time a Bronco has won the AFC Offensive Player of the Week since the awards were initiated by the NFL in 1984.

The honor marks the seventh overall AFC Player of the Week award given to a Bronco this season. Cornerback Tracy Porter, linebacker Wesley Woodyard and linebacker Von Miller have won Defensive Player of the Week Awards and kicker Matt Prater and Returner Trindon Holliday have earned Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.

Denver's seven conference weekly awards this season are the most by any team in the NFL.
