Turns out, there's a connection between Broncos and Longhorns.

The University of Texas announced its new head baseball coach on Wednesday, and he has close ties to the Denver Broncos.

David Pierce, who was named Texas' fifth baseball coach, is the brother-in-law of Broncos Head Coach Gary Kubiak. Pierce is married to Kubiak's sister, Susan.

"I'm very excited for David being named head baseball coach at the University of Texas," Kubiak said. "It's well-deserved, and he's earned this opportunity through a lot of hard work. David's prepared his entire life for this job, and nobody knows Texas baseball better than him."

Pierce joins the Longhorns from Tulane, which he led to its second straight NCAA regional and a victory over No. 1 seed Ole Miss. He has now been to 16 straight NCAA regionals as an assistant and head coach.

"David has always supported me through the years, and I'm a huge supporter of his," Kubiak said. "In addition to being my brother-in-law, I also consider David a great friend and a great person. This is a tremendous hire for Texas, and my family and I wish him all the best with the Longhorns."
