ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --After a 2-0 start, Head Coach John Fox is understandably happy with the way his team has played.
"I'm not sure you can be better than 2-0, so for me not to be pleased might be kind of goofy," he said. "You understand that it's a long season and we're just basically out of the starting lines. We're not even halfway through the race yet. So we'll just form back up, see who we have, go at it in practice, try to get the guys that are available to practice and get them better."
Below are the highlights from Fox's weekly presser breaking down the previous game.
On coming out of halftime and performing in the second half
"Someone asked me the other night—maybe it was last night (laughing)—about fire and brimstone speeches. That doesn't do anything for winning or losing football games. You've got to adjust and this game's about adjusting. Obviously, halftime is your biggest window to make those adjustments. We do what they would call debriefing on the sideline after every series, whether it's offense, defense or the kicking game. But during a game, that's the real time you get to go in, regroup, adjust and come out and play—run the second half of the race."
On trying to figure things out in the first quarter and scoring more later in the game
"We'd like to think that we figure it all out before then. That's why you game plan, that's why you start the game—you have a game plan. It doesn't always go as you plan. They do something different, you get an un-scouted look, you have to adjust. Sometimes it throws a monkey wrench in the engine and so you just react and you adjust. I thought it was a really good first drive. It really started off in poor field position but we didn't finish the drive and that's something we can improve on."
On whether he ever considers how he would stop his own offense
"Yeah, every day (laughing). You try to stay one step ahead of the posse, so to speak. You're always looking, you're always reevaluating. It's what we do. Whether you're a player or a coach in this thing, these games are tough. They're hard to win, they're hard to succeed. You're going against the best there is in the world at what you're doing. You try to stay ahead of them and looking at tape is one of those ways."
On TE Virgil Green
"Some guys have a bit more notoriety maybe. But (Virgil) is another young tight end. A lot has been made of (TE) Julius Thomas. Virgil is a guy that played a lot of football for us a year ago. He's a young player that's developing. He's doing a good job. I would say he made a couple of key blocks on those runs. Anytime you run the football well, it starts with blocking. It's not just the offensive line. It's all the blocking element, whether it's tight ends, fullbacks, tight ends lining up at fullback—even wideouts can spring guys on long runs. [WR] Demaryius Thomas had a great block on one of those runs. On offense, really—whether you're running or passing—it starts with the blocking."
On WR Trindon Holliday mishandling a kickoff return early in the game before responding with an 81-yard punt return score
"As I've said many times, if you haven't dropped one then you haven't played. If you haven't missed a tackle then you haven't played. It's all part of football. You're going to have some bad downs; you just have to win your share. I think it was a knuckler; it was a little bit breezy there. It was a tough ball to handle; a lot of great short stops have muffed balls. It was kind of a bad hop so to speak, it was a tough ball to handle. It wasn't catastrophic. He recovered and did the next best thing and then responded later in the game with an 81-yard touchdown."
On thinking about coming back to MetLife Stadium in February
"I think everybody in the league knows that's where the Super Bowl is and so it's a great stadium, it's a great venue. I have a past there in that area. They are good fans, great fans. I think it kind of passes your mind. It's a goal, I think of everybody to end up there. It's no different for us."
