Broncos, Briefly: Monday, Oct. 7, 2019

A bounce-back performance from the Denver defense in Sunday's 20-13 win over the Los Angeles Chargers was underscored by a bunch of names that didn't appear atop the depth chart at the start of the season.

What Fangio asked the Broncos during their winless start, but particularly last week following their disheartening collapse against the Jacksonville Jaguars, was to keep working, keep fighting, keep grinding and keep having faith. Easy to say, but tougher to execute considering the 0-4 start.

But thanks to a 17-point first half by the offense and a defense that kept the Chargers out of the end zone, Fangio was able to pass out a game ball and heap winning praise on his roster.

"I'm pretty sure that if we get into another situation like that, I'm marking it down right now, we're going to be able to hold it down for us," Chris Harris Jr. told reporters Wednesday as he thought back to the team's loss to Jacksonville.

He didn't lie.

The Denver Broncos built a big enough lead to hold off the Los Angeles Chargers and get Vic Fangio his first win as an NFL head coach in a 20-10 victory in Week 5. Denver flirted with disaster throughout, but the Broncos had a crucial five-play, 41-yard drive in the waning moments of the fourth quarter of a one-score game to hold off a Chargers comeback attempt.
