DENVER — Before Sunday's game, Von Miller had participated in 95 consecutive contests for the Broncos, including postseason games.

The streak was the second longest active streak among NFL linebackers, and Miller made the most of his playing time. During the stretch, he tallied 74 total sacks.

A knee injury, though, kept Miller out of the Broncos' win over the Chargers and snapped his participation streak. It was just the second time in Miller's career that he was a game-day inactive.

Miller, who worked out with trainers on the field before the game, wasn't where he needed to be to play with a knee injury that kept him out of two practices this week.

"He was close," Head Coach Vic Fangio said after the game. "He went out and worked out extensively before the game. It was a painful decision for himself. He just didn't think he could go the way he would want to go and decided that he wasn't ready."

Fangio said he stands behind Miller and his decision.

"I back him 100 percent," Fangio said. "I told him before he went out there to work out, I said, 'Hey, whatever you're feeling and decide, I'm behind it 100 percent.' It broke his streak, which I know probably didn't enter his mind too much, but he wanted to play but just didn't feel he could."

Fangio said he doesn't think Miller will need surgery and that he's hopeful the Broncos' all-time sack leader will be available for a Week 14 game in Houston.

"I'm hopeful he'll play next week," Fangio said. "It might be premature to say that, but I'm hopeful."

Defensive end Derek Wolfe, who recorded two sacks Sunday, may not be ready for Week 14 after suffering an elbow injury.

"[I'm] not optimistic about the extent of [the injury] at this point, but we'll see," Fangio said.

Guard Ron Leary exited the game with a concussion and is now in the league's concussion protocol process.
