Putting up points

After the Broncos failed to move the football into field-goal range on their first drive, a 49ers miscue gave them a second chance. Jaquiski Tartt muffed a punt, Will Parks recovered, and after review, Denver got the ball back in great field position. A Paxton Lynch throw to Bennie Fowler drew a pass interference call that brought the ball to the San Francisco 1-yard line, and C.J. Anderson barreled in for the game's first points.

Bouncing the Broncos' way

The Niners had a tough time holding onto the ball Saturday night, as they turned it over five times during the game. On one occasion, though, the credit went to the defense. On second-and-10 from the 49ers 31-yard line, Brian Hoyer attempted a pass across the middle for Marquise Goodwin. As Goodwin went to the ground, Chris Lewis-Harris wrestled the ball away from him for an interception. The Broncos would add a field goal on the next drive to take a 13-0 lead.

Wasting no time

Trevor Siemian was quick to state his case Saturday as the quarterback competition rolled on. After the Niners fumbled the ball and gave the Broncos good field position at the Denver 47-yard line, Siemian went to work. He completed 4-of-5 passes on the drive for 49 yards, and he found Jordan Taylor on a back-shoulder throw for points. His initial touchdown pass to De'Angelo Henderson was nullified by a holding call, but Siemian came back on the next play to find Taylor and cap off the drive.

Capping things off

The Broncos finished Saturday's game the way it began: with a ground trip to the end zone. This time, it was reserve running back Juwan Thompson who found the left edge and went 20 yards for a touchdown. The carry marked the longest of the game by any Broncos back, and it pushed Denver to a 33-7 lead.
