AFC West Rundown: Week 5

Kansas City Chiefs (5-0)

Week 5: Won 26-17 at Tennessee

How it happened:The Chiefs rallied from a 17-13 deficit and scored 13 unanswered fourth quarter points, keyed by a 10-play, 64-yard drive that culminated in a 1-yard Jamaal Charles touchdown run with 6:23 to play. Kansas City then forced a pair of Ryan Fitzpatrick turnovers in the game's closing minutes and tacked on two Ryan Succop field goals to put the game away and extend the Chiefs' undefeated record for another week.

It was over when:Succop hit a 48-yarder with 2:12 to play, giving the Chiefs a two-score lead. Succop's field goal was set up by a timely Quentin Demps interception of Fitzpatrick, halting a potential game-winning Titans drive and swinging the momentum permanently in Kansas City's favor.

Key performer:Charles shook off a fumble earlier in the game and finished with 108 rushing yards, in addition to 37 receiving yards.

What's next:Tied with the Broncos atop the division, the Chiefs play host to the Raiders in Week 6 in a pivotal AFC West showdown.

Between the hash marks:

-The NFL's top scoring defense again carried its weight, as the Chiefs limited the Titans to 17 points and 339 total yards. Kansas City forced three Tennessee turnovers and sacked Fitzpatrick three times – one from linebacker Justin Houston, whose 8.5 sacks are second-best in the NFL.

-Charles has been a multidimensional threat for the Chiefs all season. In addition to his 397 rushing yards and three touchdowns, he's totaled 250 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Oakland Raiders (2-3)

Week 5: Won 27-17 vs. San Diego

How it happened:Quarterback Terelle Pryor returned to the playing field in a big way, throwing a 44-yard touchdown to Rod Streater on the Raiders' first offensive snap and helping Oakland jump out to a 24-3 lead through three quarters. A late 50-yard field goal from Sebastian Janikowski helped the Raiders stave off a late Chargers comeback attempt.

It was over when:Rookie cornerback D.J. Hayden intercepted Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers in the end zone with 1:48 remaining, effectively subduing San Diego's comeback hopes.

Key performer:Pryor connected on 18-of-23 passing attempts for 221 yards and two touchdowns, and his key fourth quarter scramble eluded a sack and set up a 20-yard completion to Brice Butler on third down, leading to Janikowski's field goal.

What's next:The Raiders play at Kansas City, traveling to Arrowhead Stadium for a crucial divisional showdown.

Between the hash marks:

-The Raiders defense forced five turnovers against the Chargers, including safety Charles Woodson's 25-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the second quarter. The score was Woodson's 13th defensive touchdown of his career, tying an NFL record.

-The win was just the Raiders' fourth victory in their last 20 games against the Chargers.

San Diego Chargers (2-3)

Week 5: Lost 27-17 at Oakland

How it happened:The Chargers fell behind 24-3 and were undone by turnovers throughout the game. Rivers threw an interception on San Diego's opening possession, and the Chargers proceeded to give the ball away five times – without forcing a single Oakland turnover.

It was over when:Rivers was intercepted in the end zone by Hayden. The pick ended a seven-play, 77-yard drive and nullified Rivers' pair of fourth quarter touchdown passes that had rallied San Diego back within striking distance.

Key performer:Wide receiver Keenan Allen hauled in six passes for 115 yards, and his 7-yard touchdown reception from Rivers with 10:17 remaining cut the score to 24-17.

What's next:The Chargers host the red-hot Colts (4-1), who knocked off the previously unbeaten Seahawks 34-28 on Sunday – just two weeks after winning 27-7 at defending NFC Champion San Francisco.

Between the hash marks:

-Rivers' 1,610 passing yards rank fourth in the NFL, and the quarterback cracked the 400-yard passing mark for the third time this season.

-Linebacker Jarrett Johnson racked up six tackles and a pair of sacks.

Denver Broncos (5-0)

Week 5: Won 51-48 at Dallas

How it happened:In a thrilling, back-and-fourth afternoon of football, quarterback Peyton Manning rallied the Broncos from a late 48-41 deficit by leading a nine-play, 73-yard drive that was capped by a 1-yard Knowshon Moreno touchdown run with 2:39 to play. Linebacker Danny Trevathan intercepted Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo on the ensuing possession, setting up Matt Prater's game-winning 28-yard field goal as time expired.

It was over when: Prater's 28-yard field goal sailed through the uprights and the clock read 0:00 at AT&T Stadium.

Key performer: Manning threw for 414 yards and four touchdowns – bringing his total to 20 on the season – and also ran for his first touchdown since the 2008 season.

What's next: The Broncos host the Jaguars (0-5) on Sunday afternoon. The Jaguars closed within a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter against the Rams on Sunday, but Sam Bradford's 31-yard touchdown pass to Austin Pettis with 5:45 remaining sealed St. Louis' 34-20 win and kept Jacksonville still searching for its first win.

Between the hash marks:

-Defensive end Shaun Phillips recorded a pair of sacks – including a critical takedown of Romo one play prior to Trevathan's interception – bringing his total to 5.5 on the season. Defensive end Robert Ayers also recorded a sack and now has 4.5 in 2013.

-Moreno's 93-yards rushing and fourth quarter score were pivotal to the Broncos' win, but Denver's running backs played an equally important role in the passing game. Moreno caught five passes for 57 yards and Ronnie Hillman added four catches for 42 yards.
