Outside linebacker Von Miller is one of five finalists for the 2018 NFLPA Alan Page Community Award, the NFL Players Association announced Friday.
Geno Atkins (Cincinnati Bengals), Kelvin Beachum (New York Jets), Cam Newton (Carolina Panthers) and Andrew Whitworth (Los Angeles Rams) are the other nominees.
"The Alan Page Community Award is the highest honor that the NFLPA can bestow upon a player," according to an NFLPA release. "The award annually recognizes one player who goes above and beyond to perform community service in their team cities and hometowns."
Miller, who is a finalist for the second consecutive year, was the NFLPA's Week 12 Community MVP and started a Von's Vision Center at the Denver Broncos Boys & Girls Club. Though Miller has invested time and money into Von's Vision throughout his NFL career, the Von's Vision Center will allow members of the Boys & Girls Club to receive free eye exams and fittings for glasses while alleviating the need for transportation to a optometrist's office.
The five finalists for this year's award were chosen from the list of this year's weekly Community MVPs. Each of those players were awarded $10,000 for their foundation — and the five finalists will now receive an additional $10,000 that will be donated to their foundation or charity of choice.
The NFLPA will announce the winner — who will be decided by other NFL players — at a press conference on the Thursday before the Super Bowl.
If Miller wins, he would receive another $100,000 for Von's Vision.
Miller is also the Broncos' nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award. The NFL will announce the winner of that award, which has 32 finalists, during NFL Honors on Feb. 2.
