ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Trevor Siemian's uniform will look a little different when he runs out on the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum grass Sunday.

A "C" will be added to the front of No. 13's jersey after the Broncos voted him as a captain for the second half of the 2016 season.

Head Coach Gary Kubiak announced the addition of Siemian to the existing group of captains after practice Wednesday. Siemian will join wide receiver Demaryius Thomas as an offensive captain, while safety T.J. Ward will join linebacker DeMarcus Ware to lead the defense. Dekoda Watson was named a special teams captain alongside Kayvon Webster.

For the second-year quarterback, the team's decision to vote him as a captain was a "tremendous honor."

"It really is," Siemian said. "It means a lot to me to, first of all, be a part of this locker room and then know some guys think of me in that light. So [it's] a huge honor for me, [and I'm] really excited to be a part of this thing."

Kubiak, who has watched Siemian grow as a quarterback since he was drafted in the seventh round out of Northwestern in 2015, acknowledged the significance of the distinction for a second-year player on a veteran team.

"That's pretty cool," Kubiak said. "To be such a young guy and in his first year of playing, I think it tells him that they want him to lead them regardless of what year he's in. He needs to continue to do that and push forward. We've got to help him, but that's three good guys that they chose to be part of the leadership that's already in place."

Offensive Coordinator Rick Dennison joked that he "didn't get a chance to vote" on the captainship, but he said the locker room's decision to elect Siemian reflects significantly on his demeanor on the field.

"Obviously, it seems like [Siemian's] taken on a bigger leadership role," Dennison said. "He's running the huddle well, and people are looking up to him to help the tempo. He's really taken a command of what everybody's doing. I think that's one of the main reasons."

As Siemian looks ahead to Sunday's game against Oakland, however, he again deffered to many of the veterans in the locker room. While he's found success in his first year as a starter, he said he's tried to take the lead of his older teammates.

"Playing helps certainly," Siemian said. "Just having those live game reps and that experience. But at the same time, I'm just trying to be myself throughout the whole thing. Growing into a little bit of a leadership role, but again we've got great leadership throughout the locker room. So, I'm just kind of following suit with those guys."
