Broncos Injury Report: Cody Latimer, Isaiah McKenzie get up to speed

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --Wide receivers Cody Latimer and Isaiah McKenzie saw limited work Thursday, but both "looked great," Head Coach Vance Joseph said after practice on a chilly day at UCHealth Training Center.

"They were limited, but they both looked fast, and that's the key when you're dealing with ankles and knees," Joseph said. "They both looked fast and explosive, so it was fun to see those guys run around."

Given the priority that will be placed on special teams Monday night, their presence could be crucial to the outcome.

Latimer will be needed to help cover Kansas City's Tyreek Hill, who has a 14.3-yard average on 52 career punt returns. Hill burned the Broncos last season for an 86-yard touchdown on a free-kick return in the Chiefs' Week 12 win.

"[Latimer] is a top-tier gunner. He's also a top-tier [kickoff] returner for us, and he was in the top five before he got his injury," Joseph said. "Absolutely, he's a big part of our team's units. To have him back will help us."

Right tackle Menelik Watson was limited because of a calf injury that sidelined him last Sunday against the Chargers.

"He looked fine. He's getting better every day," Joseph said.

Tight end A.J. Derby, safety Will Parks and quarterback Paxton Lynch were also limited Thursday because of shoulder injuries. The session was Lynch's first full-scale practice since he suffered a sprained right shoulder on Aug. 26; he also took part in Wednesday's "jog-through" work.

Defensive end Derek Wolfe (foot/hand), inside linebacker Todd Davis (ankle) and offensive tackle Donald Stephenson (calf) did not practice because of injuries. Joseph said he was not concerned that Wolfe would be unable to play Monday.

"He's got a couple of [injury] things going on, but if he can go, he will; I promise you that," Joseph said.

Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (sprained ankle) and tight end Jake Butt did not practice, but worked out with a team strength-and-conditioning coach on the northwest practice field. Butt practiced last week, but he has been held out of full-scale work the last two days after dealing with soreness following three days of practice last week.

Running back Jamaal Charles, cornerback Aqib Talib and nose tackle Domata Peko Sr. all received veterans' rest days, as has been the case in recent weeks.
