Flex Scheduling Starts Week 5

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --Starting in Week 5, no scheduled game time is safe.

According to NFL Around the League, starting in the 2014 season, games can be flexed into the Sunday Night Football slot as early as Week 5.

There is a catch, however.

Between Weeks 5 and 10, only two games total can be flexed to Sunday Night Football. That means the league will have to be especially picky during that timeframe if it wants to move a game to primetime.

Starting in Week 11, however, the flex schedule procedures remain the same -- the NFL can move any Sunday afternoon game to Sunday night.

Games played on Thursday, Saturday and Monday are not eligible to be flexed.

Teams will get fair warning -- as before, the announcement to flex a game will come no later than 12 days prior to the Sunday night game. That goes for Weeks 5 through 16.

Week 17 is a little different -- there is no Sunday Night Football game for the final day of the regular season when the schedule is released. The matchup for that timeslot will be decided upon and announced with at least six days notice.

The full schedule for 2014 will be released at 6 p.m. MDT.
