Broncos, Briefly: Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019

Both Beth Bowlen-Wallace and Brittany Bowlen were in attendance at the Merlin Olsen Luncheon in Atlanta on Friday. Beth and Brittany both representing their father, and Broncos owner, Pat Bowlen as they await word of his potential enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

In a season during which his defense allowed the fewest points and produced the most takeaways in the NFL, new Broncos coach Vic Fangio's masterpiece came in Week 14 against the Los Angeles Rams.

In the great history of the NFL, only three defensive players had more Pro Bowl appearances than Bailey. Merlin Olsen had 14. Ray Lewis and Reggie White each had 13. All were elected in their first year of HOF eligibility.

In 1990, Reed watched the Week 2 Monday night game, Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos, when 253-pound Chiefs running back Christian "The Nigerian Nightmare" Okoye, who had become an All-Pro by barreling over and through defenders, rumbled into the Broncos' defensive backfield. In just his second season, the 218-pound Atwater did the unimaginable: He met Okoye head to head. And knocked him back.

"He was a 'Woo!' hitter," Reed said of the eight-time Pro Bowler, two-time first-team All-Pro and two-time Super Bowl champion. "He was one of the guys I looked up to, but Ronnie Lott was my guy."
