The Squeeze: Defense nears history and ringing in the new year

Happy New Year, #BroncosCountry –

We hope 2016 is treating you well so far! Here are a couple things to get caught up on, starting with the record-breaking defense:

1. Broncos could make history Sunday
There's a lot on the line for the Broncos on Sunday aside from the AFC West title and a first-round bye in the playoffs.

The Broncos defense could do something that hasn't been done since the 1991 Jets: lead the league in pass, run and total defense.

But 15 games in, the Broncos already have had a rare season on defense. Entering Sunday's game, they are No. 1 in the NFL in pass defense, No. 1 in sacks and No. 2 in run defense (just 0.3 yards per game behind the New York Jets).

The league keeps 17 major statistical categories on defense and the Broncos currently are No. 1 in seven of those categories, No. 2 in one category, No. 3 in three of them and No. 4 in three more.

The Broncos have never finished No. 1 in fewest yards allowed per game.

Tight end Owen Daniels' little brother Hayden Daniels is a senior tight end playing for the Houston Cougars. Hayden and the Cougars topped the Florida State Seminoles on Thursday in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl — and Hayden had a pretty legit highlight-reel block.

3. Ringing in the new year
The Broncos are back at practice this morning, but that doesn't mean they didn't get a chance to ring in the new year on social media:

4. In case you missed it …
