Broncos Injury Update: One step closer to full health

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. --TE Owen Daniels and CB Aqib Talib returned to practice Saturday as the Broncos got in their final on-field work of the week before taking a Sunday break during their bye weekend.

Daniels and Talib were held out of the previous two days to give them opportunities to rest after a grueling regular season. Daniels, in particular, has played through multiple injuries and has received off-days from practice throughout the year, but did not miss a regular-season game.

"We've gotten some guys freshened up and in a good frame of mind," Head Coach Gary Kubiak said. "It looks like we're going to be pretty close maybe to Wednesday being about as close to where we started back four months ago. That's a good thing."

QB Peyton Manning also practiced for a third consecutive day, completing what Kubiak called a "good week."

"He looks really fresh out there and is throwing the ball well," Kubiak said.

ITEMS OF NOTE:

... ILB Brandon Marshall did not practice for a third consecutive day, but is expected back next week. Marshall said the ankle injury he suffered Dec. 28 against the Bengals was a high ankle sprain. He started last Sunday against the Chargers, but took himself out of the game after three plays after the discomfort proved too great to overcome.

Marshall added that he will have surgery in the offseason to remove screws from his foot that were placed there to aid in his recovery from a Lis franc injury he suffered late in the 2014 season. Marshall said he did not know the exact timetable of his recovery from that procedure.

... QB Brock Osweiler is expected to return to practice Monday, Kubiak said. Osweiler sat out the last three days of work because of multiple injuries.

... OLB DeMarcus Ware was not in uniform Saturday, but Kubiak said he expects him to be back on the field Monday for its "brief workout." Ware suffered a knee injury last Sunday.

"I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but I think he has an excellent chance to be there next weekend," Kubiak said.

... Safety Darian Stewart's status will bear monitoring throughout next week. Stewart did not take part in any sessions this week because of the hamstring injury that he aggravated late in the first quarter of last Sunday's win over San Diego.

Kubiak said Stewart's injury is "probably the biggest concern" for next week.

"But I think you'll see him Wednesday," Kubiak added. "I'd love to see that secondary back in tact again for the first time and healthy. [S] T.J. [Ward] is doing really well."

... Ward and CB Chris Harris Jr. were on the sidelines, but are on track to return next week.

The Broncos continued their bye-week practice on Saturday, and soon they'll have an opponent to prepare for with the day's Wild-Card games. (photos by Ben Swanson, unless otherwise noted)
