ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Running back Royce Freeman (ankle) participated in individual drills during the media-viewing period on Thursday as he eyes a return from injury, but he did not participate in team drills, Head Coach Vance Joseph said.

"He went part-time today," Joseph said. "Hopefully [he'll do] a little bit more tomorrow. We'll see about playing this weekend."

Freeman was officially listed among the five Broncos players who did not practice. Linebacker Brandon Marshall (knee), safety Darian Stewart (neck), wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton (knee) and cornerback Bradley Roby (ankle) also missed the session.

Fullback Andy Janovich (thigh), tackle Jared Veldheer (knee) and outside linebackers Shane Ray (ankle/wrist) and Von Miller (knee) were listed as limited.

Joseph said he expects Veldheer to play on Sunday after practicing in a limited capacity on Wednesday and Thursday.

"He looked fine today," Joseph said. "So yeah, he should play."

Joseph said Veldheer would retake his starting spot at right tackle.

If Marshall is unable to play, rookie linebacker Alexander Johnson could be active for the first time this season.

"Very possible if Marshall doesn't go," Joseph said. "So it's very possible he could play this week."
