A 32-year coaching veteran, Shurmur has 21 seasons of NFL experience, including the last 11 years as a head coach or offensive coordinator.
Shurmur has four years of experience as a head coach, working in that role with the N.Y. Giants from 2018-19 and with Cleveland from 2011-12. He also served as interim head coach for Philadelphia at the end of the 2015 season. He has been an offensive coordinator for seven seasons, previously coaching in that role with Minnesota (2016-17), Philadelphia (2013-15) and St. Louis (2009-10).
During his NFL career, Shurmur has been part of nine playoff teams and seven division champions. He also has coached in six conference championship games as well as Super Bowl XXXIX (2004 season).

Lock's decision-making has been solid, his accuracy improved and his footwork relatively consistent. After posting a 4-1 record, all signs indicate that Lock should be able to take a step forward from his rookie campaign.

"Contrary to the stereotype that is always out there, [that a] defensive head coach wants to ground and pound and counts a pitch to the halfback as a pass, that is not me," Fangio said Thursday. "I like to be aggressive."
