Dwayne Stukes enters his first season as special teams coordinator for the Denver Broncos in 2022. He was hired by the club on Feb. 17.
Stukes, who has 14 years of coaching experience with six NFL teams, joins the Broncos after one season as assistant special teams coach with the Los Angeles Rams. He has also spent time with Jacksonville (2019-20), N.Y. Giants (2016-17), Chicago (2013-14), Dallas (2012) and Tampa Bay (2006-11).
As a special teams coach, Stukes has helped two kickers earn NFL Pro Bowl selections. Rams kicker Matt Gay earned his first Pro Bowl honor in 2021 while former NFL kicker Josh Brown garnered the distinction in 2015 as member of the Giants.
Under Stukes' watch, three teams have posted a season in they've recorded the NFL's second-highest field goal percentage. Rams (94.1%, 2021), Giants (94.5%, 2016) and Buccaneers (92.8%, 2011) finished their respective seasons ranked second in field goal percentage.
In 2021, Stukes helped coach a special teams unit that ranked fifth in punt return average (11.3) and punt return average against (6.7). Additionally, the Rams ranked second in field goal percentage (94.1%), with Gay making 32-of-34 field goal attempts and 48-of-49 (98.0%) extra points.
Stukes also worked with wide receiver Brandon Powell, who in the 2022 NFL playoffs, led all players in punt return yards (104) and ranked fourth in kickoff return yards (88). He was the only player to accumulate at least 75 punt and kickoff return yards in the postseason.
Prior to the L.A. Rams, Stukes was a defensive assistant for Jacksonville from 2019-20. He was part of a defensive coaching staff in 2019 that helped two players (DE Calais Campbell, CB Jalen Ramsey) earn Pro Bowl nods.
Preceding his time with the Jaguars, Stukes was the assistant special teams coach for the Giants and Bears for a combined four seasons (2013-14, '16-17). In 2016, the Giants collected the league's second-best field goal percentage (95.5%) and ranked seventh in kickoff return average (23.8).
During Stukes' two seasons in Chicago, the Bears' special teams unit led the league in kickoff return average against in both seasons, allowing just 18.8 kickoff return yards in 2013 and 17.5 in 2014. The team also ranked second in punt return average (14.2) and sixth in punt return average against (7.4) in 2013.
Before joining the Giants and Bears, Stukes spent the 2012 season with Dallas, participating in the team's minority coaching program.
Stukes began his coaching career with Tampa Bay as a coaching assistant in 2006. After two years in the role from 2006-07, Stukes went on to perform the role of special teams quality control coach (2008), assistant defensive backs coach (2009-10) and special teams coordinator (2011).
As a player, Stukes spent parts of four seasons (2000-03) as a member of Tampa Bay, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh. Stukes also played for NFL Europe's Berlin Thunder (2001-02) and the Arena Football League's Colorado Crush (2004).
Stukes is married to wife, Lori, and the couple has two daughters, Jade and Skylar, and one son, Myka.
