A.C. Carter enters his first season as a defensive quality control coach for the Broncos in 2022. He was hired by the club on Feb. 22.
Carter joins the club after spending the previous two seasons (2020-21) as a graduate assistant/defensive assistant at the University of Kansas. He was set to become the defensive line coach at the University of Tennessee Martin before electing to join the Broncos' staff.
Preceding his time with the Jayhawks, Carter coached the defensive tackles at Hampton University for one season in 2019. He coached two All-Big South Conference players while his unit contributed to a defense that ranked second in fewest rushing yards (1,788), third in sacks (29) and tied for third in yards per rush (4.5).
Prior to Hampton, Carter spent two seasons at his alma mater, Eastern Illinois University, from 2017-18. In 2017, he served as a graduate assistant and director of football operations before being promoted to defensive line coach in 2018 when he coached two All-Ohio Valley Conference players.
In addition to his five years of experience at the collegiate level, Carter also spent two years coaching high school football in Louisiana. Prior to joining Eastern Illinois in 2017, Carter worked as offensive line/tight ends coach at Riverdale High School after serving as assistant head coach/co-defensive coordinator at Sophie B. Wright Charter School for the 2015 and '16 high school seasons.
Carter graduated from Nicholls State University (Thibodaux, La.) in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in human performance education. He also earned a master's degree in technology from Eastern Illinois in 2018.
