Broncos hoist third Lombardi Trophy with Super Bowl 50 victory over Panthers

Posted Feb 7, 2016

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — With a 24-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers at Levi's Stadium in Super Bowl 50, the Broncos won the franchise's third Lombardi Trophy and fulfilled on the promise they showed all season with their stout defense and balanced rushing attack.

The matchup was a dynamic one, with the defense slowing down the Panthers and MVP quarterback Cam Newton. The group, which led the league in numerous categories this season, came up big with 7 sacks and 4 takeaways.

Offensively, the Broncos were led by C.J. Anderson, who rushed for 90 yards on 23 attempts and 1 touchdown, and Emmanuel Sanders, who had 8 receptions for 83 yards.

The Panthers were no easy opponent, as to be expected by a team that came into the game with a 17-1 regular season and postseason record, and Cam Newton gave the Broncos trouble with 265 yards passing and 45 yards rushing.

The championship ending is the perfect bow on the season after the Broncos' wildly thrilling season that began with seven consecutive wins full of thrilling moments and finished with the incredible return of Manning in Week 17 leading to this magical postseason run.

For Manning, this is his second time hoisting the Lombardi Trophy and he became the first quarterback to win a Super Bowl with two different teams. For everyone else on the roster, it is their first time, and for the Broncos, this success in their eighth Super Bowl appearance is yet another jewel in the franchise's crown.
