Broncos, Briefly: Friday, February 17, 2017

Posted Feb 17, 2017

A quick look at the recent buzz on the Denver Broncos.

With combine looming, Broncos work to ‘stay great’ on defense (Jeff Legwold, ESPN)
It was, and still is, painfully obvious to the Broncos, because despite all that was good in 2016 -- they finished No. 4 in total defense, No. 4 in scoring defense and No. 1 in pass defense -- Denver's inability to close down the opposing run game meant it often couldn’t close the deal.

Five moves each AFC West team should make this offseason (Bill Barnwell, ESPN)
Get help along the defensive front … While they finished the season with the league's best defensive DVOA, their No. 1-ranked pass defense carried the load, as they ranked just 21st against the run. It didn't help matters that projected starter Vance Walker sat out the entire season after tearing his ACL, and Derek Wolfe also missed time.

Paradis ‘feeling good’ after second hip surgery (Troy Renck, KMGH)
While there will be changes upfront in personnel and in tweaks to the blocking scheme, the Broncos possess a top performer who can anchor the line. Center Matt Paradis, a 2016 Pro Bowl alternate, underwent his second hip operation this offseason as he attempts to correct issues that prevented him practicing a year ago.

Four CU Buffs lead list of local invites to the NFL Combine (Troy Renck, KMGH)
The NFL released its list of 330 combine invites, which includes local flavor. CU leads with four players -- cornerback Chidobe Awuzie, free safety Tedric Thompson, cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon and quarterback Sefo Liufau.
