Trevor Siemian to start at quarterback vs. Jets

Posted Dec 4, 2017

Head Coach Vance Joseph announced the news Monday.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Trevor Siemian will make his ninth start of the season on Sunday when the Broncos take on the New York Jets, Head Coach Vance Joseph announced Monday.

"I can't speak to Trevor's confidence," Joseph said. "I can say he has to play better. Obviously we had some missed throws yesterday, and we had some missed reads. [We] had some plays that we missed and had open. He has to make those plays for us, but I can't speak to his confidence. Trevor, in my opinion, is a confident guy. He had a good week of work."

Siemian finished Sunday's loss to the Dolphins 19-of-41 for 200 yards and three interceptions. He was also sacked three times.

The blame didn't fall solely with Siemian, though, as the passing game lacked sharpness in all phases, Joseph said.

"As far as the pass game, that wasn't good." Joseph said. "We had three interceptions — one for a touchdown. We missed some throws, we had trouble separating from that secondary. We had trouble in protections, also. All three levels with the pass game wasn't good enough, but the run game was good."

On the year, the third-year quarterback has completed 59 percent of his passes for 2018 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Second-year quarterback Paxton Lynch was ruled out for the Broncos' Week 14 game with a high-ankle sprain. Lynch suffered the injury during the second half of Denver's game in Oakland on Nov. 26. At the time, Joseph said Lynch faced a two-to-four week recovery timeline.
